Fairy Tidy Makeup Brushes

Makeup brushes end up everywhere and  I've been looking for a convenient and pretty way to store them for a while now. I wanted them to be kept tidy but also accessible so I can use them every day.

While looking around for ideas, I often came across the white Ikea cutout flower pot or pen pots. I really wanted something different and unique. I already have a lot of white in my room and I wanted something that would give my room a pop of colour, something that was fun. I really love retro vintage things so that was the vibe I was looking for.

I eventually found the perfect one. I browsed amazon very intensely for a whole evening and suddenly came a cross a "retro ceramic kitchen utensil holder." that measured 11x14cm. I just stared at it beaming at the prettyness of it.

It reminded me of a war time propaganda poster, as though it had come out of the 1940s. It has a cute cupcake on it with pink icing and a strawberry on top. It also has a faint duck egg green background with tiny pink polka dots and bold red lettering.

It slots very neatly into the space next to my makeup tidy on my desk.

My brush collection is not impressive but I am working on that. I have my eye on a few sigma and elf brushes.

*Fairy soft lips*

I was on a "basics spree" in Primark when I came across a giant Vaseline tub, with smaller Vaseline tubs inside. Suddenly I had this vision of storing all my favourite everyday lip balms in this really cool tub. I could also imagine how adorable it would look on my desk.

As I am getting older, I've noticed my lips get drier and when I wear lipstick it doesn't go on as smoothly or will bleed out more quickly . So I've been investing in more lip products and taking better care of my lips. I also generally love lip products; maybe even slightly obsessed.

Now I have somewhere quirky to store some of my favourite lip products.

In no particular order just a few of my favourites:
(From left to right)

  1. Eight Hour Cream - Elizabeth Arden: I probably use this one most often just before I go to bed. I think everyone needs to own this.
  2. Burt's Bees Vitamin E & Peppermint: I love wearing this just before I wear a matte lipstick. I love the tingling sensation it leaves. I also feel like it slightly plumps the lips.
  3.  Yu-Be lips (Japanese product) : Glycerin (retains moisture in the skin) based and enriched with Vitamin E and Camphor. I do feel a noticeable difference in the softness of my lips when I use this.
  4. Banana Boat Sunscreen Lip Balm :  My summer lip balm :) I think a lot of people forget our lips can burn too and that they also need spf. I love this it has spf 45 and is water resistant (80 mins, is what it says - hmm not quite sure about this.)
  5. EOS Honeysuckle honeydew: The packaging is too cute! I feel incredibly cool when applying this to my lips. I can't really tell if it is doing anything for my lips, it does however smell incredible. I feel like a story book character when I apply this.

Lucky Fairy

Do you believe in luck? My friend and I were having a discussion about this and this quote is basically our discussion in a nutshell ...
"People who think of themselves as 'lucky' actually are 'lucky' because they are more willing to take advantage of opportunities." ~ Cambridge University psychologist Dr Mike Aitken
I recently took part in BBC Big Risk Test and was provided with a detailed analysis of my results and that's where I discovered the above quote. Research and studies in luck are showing links to risk taking.

I consider myself to be quite a lucky person.Things happen for me because well I like to take chances and I put myself out there. I have had people say to me "oh wow you're so lucky that you have the opportunity to do such cool things". But it's because I am constantly putting myself out there, whether it's in job opportunities, life experiences or just relationships. So it's more likely that one day one or a few of these are bound to turn out as good or 'lucky' opportunities.  I'm enthusiastic and try and make the most of any situation or experience, good or bad. So to everyone else it often looks as though thing are going well for me or that I'm doing something I enjoy or even having heaps of fun.

I found a really intriguing article on the BBC website about taking chances, risk assessment and how it influences people to think about luck.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-12934253
So basically optimists, realists, those who are constantly taking advantage of opportunities and those that are putting themselves out there are getting further in life or are more content. They don't seem to let the bad days or the 'unlucky' days hinder or drag them down.

Fairy Who Wants to be a Ninja

No I don't jump out of bed like a Ninja when I realise I've overslept! I wish  I did.
For those that have to get somewhere early morning, it's difficult, you complain, but you have the ability to jump out of bed like a Ninja because you know you have to get somewhere for a specific time. The early bird really does catch the worm as I have learned today.
I am currently studying and getting work done is all down to me. It is all down to me being organised and efficient.

Today I wasted a whole entire day. Why? Because I woke up at eleven am. If I had be organised, I could have spent today productively.

On days I wake up late, my day does not feel structured and I just feel groggy all day. Whereas if I wake up early, yes initially I'm groggy but I'm more alert and focused for most of the day. I feel I can get work done, so by the time its about 5 or 6 in the evening and I'm really tired, I'm not bothered because I feel as though I've spent my day productively.

Lesson learnt : WAKE UP LIKE A NINJA & WAKE UP EARLY ... The structure of my day and how productively it goes ... all lies in my hands :s

Fairy With Nothing In Particular to Say

This post is about nothing in particular...
So like the rest of the human race I sit and think a lot, when I can and when I shouldn't. I also day dream a lot.
All  these thoughts, dreams and day dreams are caged up in my mind are causing a bit of a mess and often make me feel altogether overwhelmed.

The daily buzzing in my head of thoughts and feelings I can't keep in ... because sometimes life just gets a little or a lot overwhelming.

Sincerely

A girl who thinks she is a fairy ....
